    Constant Leaky Diapers

DiaperI am starting to wonder if they make diapers like they used to. My youngest son ends up soaking wet by the time morning comes. This happened occasionally with my other sons, but it was not an every day occurrence like it is with Baby D.

I have tried switching brands, the overnight diapers and using a larger diaper. In addition, I have cut back on the amount of liquids my son drinks later in the day. I always put on a fresh diaper at bedtime. The poor little guy still wakes up soaking wet practically every morning. This little problem is not only gross, it is costly considering the water and detergent I have to use to launder his sheets daily.

I read about something called Diaper Doublers. I am going to try them but will have to order them online. They do not sell them at my local grocery store. In the meantime, I did discover a trick last night. I had some old pull-ups from when I was potty training my other son. I put one on Baby D over his diaper and he remained dry! The pull-up absorbed the liquid that would normally have leaked. Who knows, I might just stick with this method as long as it continues to work!

    A Million Dollar Smile

Smiling_kid Another orthodontist appointment has come and gone for my son.  At 11 he has spent more time in a dentist chair then I have in my entire 33 years of life.  Not for poor teeth health, but for lets say bad decisions on a bicycle and the layout his mouth decided to take.  I joked at his appointment that he would soon have a million dollar smile.

The reason I bring this up is because I was reading an article on teeth health and the importance of good hygiene.  Due to all of the work my son has had and will continue to have on his teeth, he has really struggled with how to take care of his teeth around all of the work.  I remind him daily how important it is for him to take good care of his teeth.

Now I know if he is having difficulty then maybe there is another child struggling or even a parent that might be having difficulty in how to explain proper care and why it is so important.  The article, Caring for Your Child’s Teeth, is offered by Family Education.

As parents, we need to remind our children that dedication to taking care of their teeth will pay off in the long run.  They will have healthy teeth and a great smile!

Cool Cribs: Stylish Nurseries For Baby

Crib1_3 Gone are the days of teddy bear and pretty princess themed nurseries.  Today's parents are calling for a look that fits with their own personal style but still retains a cute baby look. And designers are listening. Great new themes are popping up left and right.

Crib2_2 Brighter colors and geometric patterns are some of the most popular themes in today's nurseries. Hundreds of styles are available in all price ranges. And while there are definite bright pink for girls and dark blues and greens for boys, designers are also coming up with more options in the "either/or" category.

Crib3  Here are some links to a few places with gorgeous, up to date nursery decor (including those pictured here):

    Nursery Radio

412nursery Apartment Therapy Nursery has done something they've been dying to do for years, they just launched their brand new Nursery Radio Program. The first episode went live this week with songs, storytelling and interviews. The bloggers at Coochicoos mention that if their other episodes are anything like the first......

"then you might find the program a peaceful diversion from TV cartoons and Radio Disney."

If you send in tips and let them know it's your child's birthday, they will sing about it on their show. It is a great way to get kids excited about what's going on in their lives as opposed to some of the lame cartoons and junk that's on TV.

    Show Off Your Nursery

Modernnursery_2 The bloggers at Coochicoos are inviting everyone to "show off their nurseries".  They have formed a Flickr group called modern baby nursery design and the goal is to feature modern nurseries that give great ideas and inspiration to the readers of Coochicoos.

They also want you to you to show off your design sensibilities when it comes to furniture, interior design, and accessorizing your baby's nursery by submitting your own baby nursery pictures.

Here is an important photo tagging tip:

"Be sure to include any designer and brand names (like ducduc, nurseryworks, etc.) in your photos' tags so we can see how you've used them in your nurseries.  Your photo tagging will help make our group a valuable creative resource for others interested in modern nursery design."

All photos should represent a modern sense of nursery design style and who knows, Coochicoos may even feature your nursery in a future post.

    Pottery Barn Kids Goes Green

Baby Along the lines of "going green", "eco friendly", and "tree hugger", Pottery Barn Kids has finally stepped on to the "good for the environment" bandwagon and introduced their first line of organic baby items. Parents will be thrilled to know that their environmental baby items such as, cotton crib sheets, changing pad covers, hooded bath towels, and teddy bears, all come in a gorgeous oatmeal color that is just neutral enough for a boy or girl.

Zem Joaquin, from the ecofabulous blog, can't seem to decide if Pottery Barn's generic oatmeal palette is an unfortunate mistake or if we should be thankful.....

"On one hand, without hue options design-centric customers  may avoid the new addition. On the other hand, had they opted for colors they would have likely ended up using traditional, unhealthy dyes... Maybe off-white will be the new black next season."

Zem is a firm believer in the fact that we can save our planet and preserve our sense of style at the same time. I agree, and what better way to teach our kids about the environment than to bundle them up in "ecofabulous" materials.  Ahhhh, there's the love....

Create A Nursery That Baby Will Love

Designing a nursery is one of the best parts of motherhood and while it is so fun to play with all the ideas and decorations that are available it can become quite overwhelming.  There are literally hundreds of themes and decorations on the market for a baby's room and while creating a cute themed room is important for many moms, choosing the right colors for baby is well....let's just say, stimulating.

According to some child development experts, an early introduction to bright colors and shapes help to stimulate babies' imaginations even at a very early age. We suggest instead of restricting color to monotonous tones, why not try a variety of bright blues, yellow, reds, pinks and greens to get your babies imagination working.

The bloggers at Design Talk have a few tips on how to create a kids' room. They have found that blue is a great place to start with either a boy or girl's room because it makes it easy to add a dramatic contrast with "clouds for swooping airplanes or beautiful green grass for decorative flowers".  You can find more decorating ideas at Decorating Your Baby Nursery such as, stripes are a fun idea for visual stimulation.  You can use red with white in keeping with a carnival or circus theme, blue and white in keeping with a sailing or nautical theme, and possibly yellow and white for a more gender neutral theme.

Once your colors are chosen then you can shop for bedding and accessories that will keep your baby's room bright but easy to adapt to his/her changing interests.
